ユーザがPinterestへ投稿・貼り付けした内容がeコマース・サイトへリンクしている場合、もしそのeコマース・サイトがアフィリエイト・プログラムを実施しているのであれば、Pinterestはユーザが投稿したリンクを勝手に修正して、自社のアフィリエイト・トラッキング・コードを追加しているのだという。もし別のユーザがPinterestに投稿されている写真をクリックしてeコマース・サイトで商品を購入すると、Pinterestには成果報酬が還元される。Pinterestのサイトでは、こうしたリンクの自動修正について、ユーザへ情報開示が行われていないという。（但し、ユーザの投稿に既に独自のアフィリエイト・トラッキング・コードが付いている場合、Pinterestが自社のコードに置き換えることはないと報告されている。）

Pinterestは、skimlinksのサービスを利用してリンクの修正を行っている。skimlinksは、自動でサイト内を調べ、アフィリエイト・プログラムを行っている製品に関するリンクがあれば、そこに（Pinterestの）コードを追加する。skimlinksは、アフィリエイト・プログラムで発生する成果報酬の25%を徴収している。
